GEN-H – Genetic Engineering Heidelberg GmbH
After 17 years and more than 800 successful DNA engineering projects, the Service Unit of Gene Bridges GmbH was transformed into an independent company by a management buy-out with the effective date January 1st 2020.
The company continues to operate from the Technology Park in Heidelberg, Germany, which provides an excellent network for innovation and high-tech in the area of the well-known wine area “Bergstrasse, Odenwald”.
Gen-H’s team of scientists has a vast experience in Genetic Engineering due to its daily application of Red/ET recombination (“Recombineering”). This technology originally developed at the EMBL in Heidelberg allows well-defined and precise modification of DNA to create tailor-made constructs for the generation of animal models, as well as for the modification of the E. coli chromosome, e.g. for pathway engineering.

MOUSE MODEL GENERATION
Recombineering (Red/ET recombination) has become the method of choice to engineer large replicons, such as targeting constructs (large high-copy plasmids, low-copy plasmids) or bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs). Since recombineering can be performed at any position in the DNA the technology has opened up an unlimited number of possibilities for even complex genetic modifications.
