Genetic Engineering Heidelberg GmbH

Gen-H’s team of scientists has extensive experience in genetic engineering, gained through daily application of Red/ET recombination (also known as recombineering). This technology, originally developed at the EMBL in Heidelberg, allows precise, scarless modification of DNA.

Gen-H offers proprietary technologies, including an antibiotic-free plasmid maintenance system and optimized bacterial strains. In addition, Gen-H offers its expertise in genetic engineering to academic and industrial clients in fee-for-service projects. Our portfolio encompasses the assembly of all types of constructs for animal models (e.g. complex BAC-based targeting constructs for large humanizations), as well as direct modification of the E. coli chromosome. Our highly skilled service team ensures efficient and professional completion of complex, custom genetic engineering projects.

Gen-H originates from the Service Unit of Gene Bridge GmbH, the company that originally patented Red/ET recombineering. After a management buy-out with the effective date January 1^st 2020, Gen-H GmbH became an independent company. As a result, the team has over 20 years of experience in recombineering, and in the application of the technology in metabolic engineering, white biotechnology and transgenics. We use our extensive experience in molecular and microbiology to develop new technologies to address challenges in biotechnology. Our internal Research and Development received recognition from the German Research Allowance Certification Authority (Bescheinigungsstelle Forschungszulage, BSFZ).
